Aphrodite II has graced oceans since 1999, carrying her first family on a partial circumnavigation. She was built in the Coffs Yard in Brisbane Australia for a cruising family who wanted safety and elegance and performance during their time aboard. The children were home schooled and carried on with their studies and school lessons at a specially designed nook in the saloon. Two forward staterooms with two bunks each and a Jack and Jill head with stand alone shower allow separate sleeping areas for children, crew or guests while exploring the world by water. The large separate owners cabin is aft and contains a desk area as well as an en-suite head featuring a hand painted sink and separate stall shower. The five watertight compartments and the design and construction of the boat give ocean going comfort and confidence.
The interior of Aphrodite II is like no other. Hand carved mahogany is accentuated with contrasting wooden inlays and mother of pearl. She is elegant, to be sure,....but one tough boat. Designed by Van de Stadt, her pedigree is unmatched, and her aluminum construction coupled with excellent ownership assure you of a vessel that can take you anywhere.
She is absolutely one of a kind.
The current owners purchased Aphrodite in 2005 and regularly sailed her to the Caribbean. The owner's decision to purchase this vessel was based on the adventures and the research done by the owners of the SV Hawk, Evans Starzinger and Beth Leonard. Hawk is a similar Van de Stadt that circumnavigated and explored high latitudes.
Accommodations
GUEST STATEROOMS: Starting forward, a large head with stall shower and overhead hatch is accessed from the two identical guest cabins, port and starboard, with over and under single bunks. Shower can be accessed from the deck by the hatch.
MAIN SALON: Two watertight doors lead to the main salon where a large "U" shaped settee to port offers a comfortable dining area around a solid mahogany table with a built-in drawer for cutlery. Lighted glass-front lockers feature custom storage for the yacht's crystal glassware. To starboard, a unique desk/office/breakfast area with opposing bench settees. This was originally designed for home schooling world-cruising children. With storage for printer and books, it makes a great office and extra seating for dinner guests. Generous storage exists below all bench seating.
NAV STATION: To starboard of the companionway is the unusually large stand-up navigation area offering two "chart-sized" chart drawers and access to most of the yachts electrical components and navigational equipment.
GALLEY: To starboard of the companionway is the large galley featuring wooden counter tops with custom wooden and granite inlays. Great appliances include Daewoo front loading refrigerator, Microwave oven, a Force 10 gimbaled three-burner gas range with oven as well as top loading cold plate freezer. The compressor and coil for the cold plate were replaced in 2002. In addition to the range, an oversized commercial type burner is cleverly concealed below the counter top. This burner allows the use of woks, fry pans and pasta pots that are far larger than what typical marine stoves can accommodate. A large, beautiful commercial type range hood protects boat finish and removes cooking odors. The LPG tank and valve head were replaced in 2002. A double stainless steel sink is located on the inboard side of the galley to ensure proper drainage on all points of sail. Numerous lockers, in addition to numerous storage areas below the cabin sole, provide excellent storage for long-range cruising.
MASTER STATEROOM: Continuing aft through a watertight door, the Master Stateroom features a double bunk to starboard and a large hanging locker. A desk/makeup table is situated to port. The ensuite master head offers a hand painted sink, stall shower with sliding door and opening hatch, (accessible from the deck) and a built-in clothes hamper.
